Tags

Any intelligence study typically involves creating a categorization (typically called taxonomy) and in most cases, documents are tagged to these defined categories during the analysis. Insightloupe enables its users to create taxonomy on the tags module of a project. These tags are typically hierarchical in nature and are represented as such on the platform. Tags Module we have two different tabs:

  • Tag Tree
  • Tag Browser

Enabling Tags Module

Tags module can be enabled using two ways:

  • During project creation
    • From the “Enabled Modules” section in the project’s feature settings.
  • By the Project Setting option in the Manage module.
    • On the home page of Insightloupe, select the project for which you want to enable the reports module.
    • Go to the Manage section of the project.
    • On the Manage page, look for “Project Details” On the Project Details page, click the “Project Setting” option.
    • Select “feature settings” then add the Tags module to the “Enabled Modules” section before clicking the “Save” button.

Tag Tree

Tag tree will display the taxonomy in tree-like structure. Every tag in the taxonomy can have a technology profile that will provide additional information related to the tag to the users. There are 4 types of tags that can be created on Insightloupe:

  • Technology Tags
  • Claim and Scope Tags
  • Product Tags
  • Organization Tags

By default, only the tag type where the users have created the taxonomy will be visible in the View mode of the tags module.

Creating Taxonomy

Users can create a taxonomy of any tag type one node at a time or in bulk by uploading an excel file. There are three ways in which a user can create the taxonomy for tags:

  • Manually creating the taxonomy (one node at a time)
  • Using the tags module to import taxonomy (bulk import)
  • By uploading the document in the manage module (bulk import)

Manually Creating Taxonomy

Follow the steps provided below to create a taxonomy one node at a time:

  1. Click on the “edit mode” button on the tags module to switch to edit mode.
  2. In edit mode, select the tag type and click on the Add child Tag option.
  3. Enter the name of the tag and press enter to save the tag.

Import Taxonomy

If there is no taxonomy present and an excel is uploaded, the taxonomy is created as defined in the excel file and arranged in alphabetical order by default. The order of taxonomy can be changed manually.

If taxonomy is already present on the tags module and an excel is uploaded with new child tags, these tags will be placed at the end of the existing tags in alphabetical order.

Follow the steps provided below to create a taxonomy through excel upload:

  1. Click on the “edit mode” button on the tags module to go into edit mode.
  2. In edit mode, click on Import Taxonomy.
  3. Click on the “select Excel file” option and upload the file.
  4. Click on the “upload” button.

Uploading Documents in the Manage Module

Follow the steps provided below to create a taxonomy while uploading documents. The order of tags of taxonomy will be the same as defined in Import Taxonomy.

  1. Click on any document type in the Upload Data section.
  2. Download the template using the download template option.
  3. Populate the data and then edit the taxonomy as per your needs.
  4. Click on the “select Excel file” option and upload the file.
  5. Click on the “upload” button.

Rearrange Taxonomy

To change the order of taxonomy of any tag type, follow the steps provided below:

  1. Click on the “edit mode” button on the tags module to switch to edit mode.
  2. Select the tag type that you want to Rearrange.
  3. Click on the Rearrange button.
  4. Users with manager access to the project can rearrange the tags through drag and drop. All the changes will be saved automatically.

Rename Tags

To rename the tags in the taxonomy of any tag type, follow the steps provided below:

  1. Click on the Edit Mode button on the tags module to switch to edit mode.
  2. Double click on the tag name in the taxonomy that you want to rename.
    • Users with Manager access to the project can rename the tags.
  3. Edit the tag name in the text field and all the changes will be saved automatically.

Delete Taxonomy

A user with only manager access to the project can delete a taxonomy tag by clicking on the delete icon in the edit mode.

Applying Tags to Document

There are two ways through which tags can be applied to a document.

  • Applying tags manually.
  • Applying tags through document upload.

Applying Tags Manually

Follow the steps provided below to tag a document manually:

  1. Go to the documents module of a project
  2. In the right pane of the documents module select the tag type in which you want to apply the tags to the document.
  3. Click on the edit option and select tags that you want to apply by clicking on them.
    • Click on the Star icon to make this tag added to all the family members available on Inisghtloupe.
    • Family Level Tag will have an Star icon to segregate them from the normal tags on the project.
  4. Click on the Save icon to save all changes.

Applying Tags Through Document Upload

Follow the steps provided below to apply tags to multiple documents in bulk:

  1. Go to the manage module of the project.
  2. Click on the document type to which you want to apply tags and download the template using the download template option.
  3. In the excel file Enter the value “Yes” or “Y” under the tag that you want to apply to the document and save the excel file.
  4. Click on the “select Excel file” option and upload the file.
  5. Click on the “upload” button.

Technology Profile

During the analysis of a project, additional information is identified for important tag types that is represented as technology profile. This profile allows users to provide customized insights related to tags and can be linked to different sections on the platform. A technology profile will consist of two parts:

  • User-enriched data about the tag
  • Analytics derived from documents tagged to the tag

Preview Technology Profile

A preview of profile of the selected tag is provided in the right pane of the tag tree. This preview contains user-enriched details about the tag.

Profile of all tags of a tag type contains information for similar fields. If details are provided for a field on at least one tag, then that field will be displayed in the preview section for all tags for which details have been provided for any of the fields.

  • Click on any of the tags where the analysis icon is visible. In the right pane, a preview of the tag profile will appear.

Complete Technology Profile

It includes both user-enriched details and analytics derived from documents as configured by the user.

The complete profile of a tag contains following sections all of which are configurable by the user:

  • Technology Brief: It will display the user-enriched data and images corresponding to the tag.
  • Scorecard Indicator Chart: Benchmarking of children of selected technology based on selected indicators.
  • Publication Trends: Trend of documents published in the last 10 years
  • Prolific Players: Provides Top 10 Assignees/companies for the selected technology tag.
  • Player Distribution: Provides top 10 categories for assignees/companies of tagged documents.
  • Related Documents: List of the documents tagged with the selected technology tag. 4 documents per document type are listed here. All documents can be viewed by clicking on the “View All Documents” button.

Access Technology Profile

Technology profile is accessible from the following modules:

  • Documents module

    • Matrix view
      • Technology tags are presented in chip form. Click on any of these chips to open the complete profile.
    • Expert View
      • Technology tags are presented in the chip form in the preview tab. Click on any of these chips to open the profile.
      • Technology tags are also present in the right pane. Click on any of the tags to open the profile.
  • Companies module

    • Clicking on Technology tags on the All Companies page should open the technology profile.
  • Explorer module

    • Clicking on any tag on the snake chart of technology tags will open the profile.

Create, Edit, and Export Technology Profile

User-enriched technology profile consists of text-based profile data and images. In this section, we’ll cover how to create a user-enriched technology profile.

Import Profile Data

Follow the steps provided below to import user-enriched data for a tag:

  1. Click on the Edit button to switch to Edit Mode.
  2. Click on the Import dropdown button and select the Profile option from the dropdown.
  3. From the Upload Profile pop-up, click on the “Download Template” option to download the template and populate the data in the template.
  4. Click on the “select Excel file” option and upload the file
  5. Click on the “upload” button.

Import Profile Images

Follow the steps provided below to import images data for a tag:

  1. Click on the Edit button to switch to Edit Mode.
  2. To upload images, we need to append a tag id to the name of the images for a tag. To get the tag IDs, export profile data as defined in Export Technology Profile
  3. Rename the image of a tag by appending tag_id as (Tag_id)_(name).(file_type). For example, if tag_id is 1, the file name should 1_pic.png
  4. Select all images and convert them to a zip file
  5. Click on the Import dropdown button and select the Images option from the dropdown.
  6. Click on the “select” option and select zip file that you have created
  7. Click on the upload button.

Add Tags Profile Manually

This feature enable user to add and edit the tags profile data directly on the platform. Follow the steps provided below to add tag profile data:

  1. Open the tag profile by clicking on the View Complete Profile option and switch to Edit mode.
  2. Click on the Create Profile button on the Technology Brief section to add a tag profile.
    • If there is an existing data in the tag profile, then click on the Update Profile button.
  3. Click on the textarea below the field in which you want to add/edit the data.
    • A rich-text editor is available in the Description and Extra 0-2 fields. Select text in these fields to add formatting options such as bold, underline, bullet points, hyperlinks, etc.
    • To delete any value hover over the that value to view the delete icon.
  4. To add images to the profile, user can click on Select Image button to import images from their device.
    • Users can also copy-paste and drag the images to the form to upload the images to the profile.
    • Only PNG and JPG image format are allowed to upload.
  5. Click on the Update Profile button to save the changes.

Delete Profile Image

Follow the steps provided below to delete tag profile image:

  1. Click on the Edit Mode button to switch to Edit Mode.
  2. Select a tag for which you want to delete an image.
  3. Hover over the image and the delete icon should appear.
  4. Click on the delete icon to delete the image.

Update Field Names

The default field names will be visible as the column headers. Follow the below steps to update field names:

  1. Click on the Edit button to switch to editing mode.
  2. Click on the Update Field Name button in the breadcrumb.
  3. Update the desired field name and your changes will be saved automatically.

Export Technology Profile

User-enriched data corresponding to a technology profile can be exported for offline review if required. Follow the below steps to export profile details:

  1. Click on the Export dropdown button.
  2. There’ll be two options in the drop-down menu.
    • Profile
      • This will export the user-uploaded data of all the tags in an excel file.
    • Images
      • This will export the images of all the tags in a ZIP file.

Configure Technology Profile

As mentioned earlier, technology profiles comprise of two types of data:

  • User-enriched details
  • Analytics generated from tagged documents

Insightloupe allows separate configurations for User-enriched details and complete profile.

Configure User-Enriched Profile

Details of user-enriched profile can be divided into 14 different fields. Insightloupe allows to configure the view of these fields as follows:

  1. Click on the Edit button to switch to editing mode.
  2. Fields of the profile are visible in a grid structure with a drag-and-drop icon.
  3. You can drag the fields to rearrange the order. The changes will be saved automatically.
  4. The user can also adjust the width of the field (except for drawings) by selecting the field and choosing the width option.

Configure Complete Profile

Complete profile of a tag is divided into different sections as defined in Complete Technology Profile. All of these sections can be configured as per project requirements.

Configure Visibility and Order of Sections
  1. Open the profile by clicking on the View Complete Profile link by selecting a tag in the tags module.
  2. Click on the Configure button in the breadcrumb and the Configure pop-up window will appear.
  3. Check or uncheck the checkbox corresponding to a section to update its visibility.
  4. Use the drag icon to rearrange the order of visibility of a section.
  5. All the changes will be saved automatically.

Renaming Section

Follow the below steps to rename a section:

  1. Click on the Edit Mode button to switch to the Edit view.

  2. Edit icons will appear next to the name of every section.

  3. Click on the edit icon to edit the name of the section.

    • Press enter to save the new title
    • Press Esc to cancel.

Configure Details of Individual sections

User can configure content of following sections:

  • Technology Brief
  • Scorecard Indicator
  • Related Documents

Technology Brief

Scorecard Indicator

  • Users can select the indicators for benchmarking the relevant technology tag by clicking on the Select Indicators button.
  • Users can also change the weightage of the indicator in the benchmarking by adjusting the weightage bar.

Related Documents

  • User can rearrange the order of document types in the list by using the drag icon
  • Documents corresponding to any document type can be sorted with the same options that are available in the document’s module.

Comparison of Technologies

The Compare option will allow users to compare selected technology tags or any other taxonomies on different parameters. It is available on the tag profile or Tags module. Click on the Compare button and select the tags for comparison. The Comparison of Technologies page will have the following sections:

  • Technology v/s Companies: Benchmark selected technologies on top companies working on the selected technologies
  • Scorecard of selected technologies: Benchmarking of selected technologies based on selected indicators.
  • Player Distribution: Provides insights on categories of top companies working on the selected technologies.
  • Publication Trend: Trend of document publication in the last 10 years on selected technologies.
  • Technology Brief: Comparison of qualitative details provided by users on selected technologies. This section will provide information for only those fields that are uploaded by users having analyst or manager access.

Configuration Settings

The Comparison of Technologies page is completely configurable through its Edit mode. However, the Edit mode can be accessed on this page if users have come through the Tags module directly and not from any other page or module on the platform. Users with analyst and manager access to the project can edit and configure this page.

Edit Comparison of Technologies

Follow the steps provided below to edit comparison of technologies:

  1. Open the compare technologies page by clicking on the Compare button and selecting tags to compare.
  2. Click on the Edit Mode button to switch in edit mode.
  3. Edit title of sections and can change indicators and adjust indicators weight for the scorecard chart.
    • Selected indcators and weightage of indicators in comparision modal will also be changed in the tag profile.

Configure Comparison of Technologies

Follow the steps provided below to configure different sections in comparison of technologies:

  1. Open the compare technologies page by clicking on the Compare button and selecting tags to compare.
  2. Click on the Edit Mode button to switch in edit mode.
  3. Click on the Configure button in the breadcrumb and the Configure pop-up window will appear.
  4. Check or uncheck the checkbox corresponding to a section to update its visibility.
  5. Use the drag icon to rearrange the order of visibility of a section.
  6. All the changes will be saved automatically.

Custom Charts on Tags

In addition to default charts on the Technology profile, add more charts to provide insights based on scope of the project. The same can be done for comparison of technologies.

Add Custom Chart

Follow the steps provided below to add a custom chart:

  1. To add a custom chart on the Technology profile or Comparison of Technologies, click on the Edit Mode button to switch to edit mode.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Add Chart button.
  3. From the chart builder select the document type and chat type.
  4. Select the parameter(s) to create the chart.
    • For custom chart on technology profile, in the parameter dropdown options the tag type of tag selected will not be visible as an option.
    • For custom charts on Comparision of profile Parameter 1 will be fixed as the tag type that have been selected for comparisons.
  5. Click on the Save button to add the chart.

Edit Custom Chart

Follow the steps provided below to edit the custom chart:

  1. To edit a custom chart on the Technology profile or Comparison of Technologies, click on the Edit Mode button to switch to edit mode.
  2. Click on the Edit Chart option in the edit mode to edit the chart.
  3. Edit the title of the chart by clicking on the edit icon.
  4. Users can edit the document type, chart type, and parameter(s), and can also toggle the advanced setting of the chart.
  5. Click on the Save button to save all the changes.

Tag Browser

Tag browser provides a different representation of taxonomy in the form of a Bubble cluster chart. Tag browser provides the following interactive features for deeper analysis:

  • Tags with children have dotted circumference
    • If you want to review child tags, use Shift+Click to expand/collapse a tag
  • Taxonomy browser is available in two modes:
    • Full mode: Displays all child tags irrespective of whether there is a document tagged or not
    • Minimal Mode: Displays only those child tags that have at least one tagged document
  • Filter by document types: if you want to view taxonomy browser for a specific document type. You can use this feature.
    • select the document type that you want to filter in the right pane
    • Check the checkbox if you want to show only patent families otherwise publications will be considered
    • Click on Apply to save the changes.
  • Hover over a tag will display the definition of the tag
  • If you want to review documents tagged to a specific tag, double-click on that tag and it’ll take you to the document module by filtering the documents on the selected tag
